Track Your Calories |
Individual |
Student, teacher |
Students will track their calories during the first two weeks of this project. Each student will create a form to keep track of their personal calorie information. Students will analyze their eating habits by organizing, graphing and analyzing accumulated data. |
Menu Survey |
Group |
School, could expand to web/community |
After researching and discussing what makes a good survey, students (in groups) will create a survey to see if food choices are affected by having calories, exercise, or nothing next to each menu item. Survey will be administered via a Google Form to the high school. Students may choose to post their survey on social media. Results will be analyzed and graphed. Students will write a report on their findings, share it on class Edmodo site and comment on peers' posts. Their work will be assessed with this rubric. Reflection posts and responses will be assessed with this rubric. |
Infographic |
Group |
Other students in class, Health classes, could be expanded to include other applicable classes, administration, parents and community |
Students will participate in a classroom workshop to learn how to create infographics. In their groups, students will brainstorm what they would like to include on their presentation. They will decide on roles for group members and create a work plan using Google Docs, to collect resources and information. After choosing a presentation site each group will create an infographic showing what they have learned over the course of this project. These will be presented in class and assessed via this rubric. Each student will create a reflection post on the class Edmodo site and comment on other peers' posts. Reflection posts and responses will be assessed using this rubric. Students will assess their group collaboration with this checklist. |
Presentation |
Group |
Health classes, local gym owners, fast food restaurant managers, local restaurant owners |
Students will participate in group discussion about what makes a good presentation, with teacher demonstrating through modeling. In their groups, students will decide on roles for group members and create a work plan. Students will design a presentation around their infographic. They may choose to add to their presentation with slides, or other online presentation sources. Each group will present their information to the middle and high school health classes. Local gym owners and fast food restaurant managers or restaurant owners will be invited. Students will complete a final reflection post on the class Edmodo site and respond to peers' posts. Their presentation will be assessed with this rubric and their collaboration will be assessed with this rubric (both used with permission from bie.org).
